A few days ago David surprised me with a beautiful, purple orchid. My first thought was 'it's so pretty!', but that was quickly followed with 'I hope it lasts longer than a week!'. I don't have a great history with plants. The last one I bought was a bonsai for my dorm room at UCF (just like that one-->)...it die
d in record time! Or at least I thought it was dead...I took it home in case my mom wanted to use the cool pot, and with a little love and care she nursed it back to health. It's amazing what a little water can do. :/ That was the last plant I bought.
I LOVE fresh cut flowers! And they come with the added bonus that they're supposed to die, so there's no guilt when I eventually throw them away. All that to say, I had some real hesitation when handed this gorgeous orchid!

Anyone that knows my mom, will understand why this post is dedicated to her. To say she loves orchids would be an understatement. My dad built her her very own orchid house in their backyard, and over the years she's filled it with some of God's most amazing flowers! Every time David and I go to South Florida we're in awe at how beautiful these plants are. And on our last trip David took it upon himself to find out what it would take to have one. I didn't really listen to the conversation...yes, I love looking at them, but owning one would be a different story! Well now I can say that I'm the proud owner of my very own orchid. And the first thing I did was call my mom to figure out what to do with it. The bad news is that they're relatively easy to kill...but I think I have the facts down, and depending on how I do with this one, I might have my own orchid house one day. (ok that's a bit of a stretch...but you have to start somewhere!)
Well I wanted to share some pictures. Just in case it doesn't look this good for very long...
Thank you sweetheart for having such courage in me, I hope to make you proud! And thanks for my beautiful, purple orchid too, I really do love it!

Your not alone...EJ always makes fun of me about how quickly a plant can die once in my care. Luckily your mom will be here in a couple weeks just in case LOL!!
Beautiful! I think the key is to NOT over water...
This post for some reason is making me miss the Cook Clan! Maybe because I can picture your folks house and all of her gorgeous orchids.
